NIGHT HERON

52' Brewer Pilot House Sloop

Circumnavigator

DESCRIPTION:

Night Heron is a custom 52' fiberglass composite built pilothouse/center cockpit cutter rigged sailboat.  The vessel was designed by well the known naval architect Ted Brewer.  Holiday Boats, Inc. of Mariveles, Bataan, Philippines, began construction in 1988 and completed the boat in the fall of 1990.   Being custom built, the vessel has no assigned hull number.  However, the vessel does have federal USCG documentation number 942854.   At the time of construction, the builder was a Lloyds certified builder and also built to ABS standards.  Construction was supervised by Stuart W. Purvis, an independent consultant.

Night Heron was purposely built for serious offshore passage making.  The layout is limited to two berthing cabins (forward and aft) with lots of room, lockers and safety features.  The thought and care of layout, lockers, stowage and sailing abilities is far greater than the average vessel of this size, build and planned use.  The designer's plans and builder's scantlings are rugged and suitable for most any conditions found when cruising throughout the world.  The Pilothouse is most functional for bad weather sailing and for night watch details in warmth and comfort, instead of being out in the open cockpit.  The raised salon dinette area allows excellent visibility all around, not usually found in most sailboats.  The aluminum mast is a keel stepped sail stowing mast with double aluminum spreaders, mast steps to first spreaders, aluminum boom, and aluminum mast mounted spinnaker pole.  The vessel is cutter rigged with headstay and staysail stays.   The mast is supported by stainless steel wire standing rigging with Stalok fittings .  The standing rigging is supported by massive stainless steel chainplates. The chainplates in turn are tied into the hull forward and aft with plates and midships through the decks into hull gussets and bulkheads.  In addition the vessel has an inboard marine diesel auxiliary engine (a four cylinder naturally aspirated unit rated at 90hp).  There also is an auxiliary generator plant rated at 14.5KW, 110 volts and 5O amp service.  This unit is a three cylinder marine diesel.

Night Heron is a proven, exceptionally well built, rugged, serious offshore sailing vessel.
